Alone In The Universe Question Unanswered Half a Century After Moon Landing

Columbus and his crew challenged the unknown for less of a reason than, "Are We Alone in the universe?"  So why has fear based thinking dominated space exploration since Armstrong became the first known 'human' to step on lunar surface on July 21st, 1969  over 47 years ago.

Finding answers to a questions is what science is about.  Yet it is now going to take 8 to 13 more years with the best our best efforts to take the next obvious step to Mars.  The key word below is 'underground' because efforts to take the next step have been block many times in the name of safety and budgets.

Unlike another movie 'Gravity' The Martian showed real science ingenuity to inspire an new generation of explorers.   The Martian evolved through creative writing fanfiction on http://www.galactanet.com/writing.html .  Because Random House bought the rights to his book and the fan participation in its creation, you cannot see the imaginative, vision driven effort to make a trip to Mars, be stranded, survive and return to earth as scientifically realistic as possible.  NASA thought he may have found ways to some of the ideas secured away in their secure storage.  Andy did not.  Challenged by fans questions Andy Weir continued to research with what he could find . . . on the same internet that you and I use daily.
